The SOL Foundation
I joined The SOL Foundation as an ED, upon its inception, which was in 2018. We started our research with the intention of connecting to the environment. While our paperwork was processing, lockdown occurred, leaving us stranded. We shifted our focus to assisting orphanages and communities in need across the world by educating kids about local agricultural and environmental science.
About diversity and inclusion promotion
We work as a fairly diversified team. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a rare genetic disorder, and I am a Muslim. Due to the fact that we frequently engage with people from Asia and Africa, all of the organizations with which we partner have extensive histories and diversity.
About me as a leader
I am the first woman from both sides of my immigrant family to receive an education and a career. Due to the stigma that a person with a disability and a Muslim woman cannot do anything, I have battled every day since I was a teenager and into my adulthood.
I've faced a lot of obstacles, and I want to share my knowledge and struggles with other women so that they will understand that being a minority and different is okay if you want to be a successful leader in any or all fields. All we need to do is persevere despite whatever obstacles—internal or external—we may face.
