Thanks to a non-linear career path, I have had a range of experiences from academic research in neuroscience, through experience design and strategy for digital products, all the way to business strategy consulting. I did my Ph.D. in Poland, studying neuroplasticity — a property of the nervous system to adapt to changing stimuli (a big part of our ability to learn). I came to the US to do my postdoctoral fellowship and to study neuroanatomical correlates of human emotions, including their association with decision-making. I left academia to study the mind experientially, through meditation in a Buddhist tradition. When I started working in technology, I brought my knowledge of human perception and cognitive processes into experience design and strategy. Never satisfied with looking at a small slice of whatever ecosystem I was dealing with, I always strove to understand the connections, the building blocks of the whole. That’s what eventually led me to business strategy consulting. Looking at the big picture and connecting the dots is what I do best. In my current role as a Global Director for R&D and Clinical Trial Programs at Globant, I am very excited to build a vision for bringing innovative digital solutions to research and development in pharma and medtech, and to make that vision a reality. I believe that at Globant we’re uniquely positioned to reinvent the life sciences industry. Even when you’re operating within a highly regulated environment, you’ve got to dare to imagine the art of the possible and work your way backwards to make it work within the constrains of the specific circumstance. It’s hard to innovate, if you begin your thought process by thinking about what cannot be done. At Globant, we’re not afraid to think big and to reach high.
In my experience, showing up as a real human being, exposing my own vulnerabilities, and admitting I have things to work and to improve on, is one of the best ways to inspire and empower other women. I make an effort to model a leadership style that encourages asking questions and admitting to not having all the answers, but also encourages a commitment, both to people and to getting the job done. I set high standards, and help people see that they have what it takes to achieve those standards and to be successful.
