Paula Martinez

Tech Entrepreneur

I’m co-founder of Marvik, a machine learning consulting and development company that specializes in Computer Vision, Predictive Analytics and Natural Language Processing.

As part of my previous technical experience, I collaborated for several years at Ceibal, a 500 employees public-owned organization that supports Uruguay’s national educational system with technology. Later, I had the chance of taking ownership of different responsibilities and progressed within the company to leadership and management positions, where I served as Head of Decentralized Services.

In terms of academic background, I hold an Electrical Engineer degree and and a Master in technological business management. I’ve also completed programs at MIT and Berkeley among others.
I’m proud to be the first Uruguayan woman selected as Google Developer Expert in machine learning. This was in great part possible thanks to my active role in the AI community, co-organizing and hosting machine learning meetups, and participating as guest speaker in several conferences across the Americas.

As part of the program and more generally, I’ve had the opportunity of taking part in mentorship activities to inspire young girls and other women to choose this exciting field as a career path.

Moreover, at Marvik we are putting consistent efforts into bridging the gender gap. We have amazing career opportunities available to women in this exciting industry. We are thrilled that our team is now 25% female, which is higher than the average in the machine learning field, but there is still a long way to go.
