“The LED lighting produced by my company is the result of my commitment to my mission and vision of an energy transition. In a word, the future of agriculture and energy can be described as transformational,” says Shohreh Sabaghpour, Founder and CEO at LumeSmart. The Toronto-based company was established in 2013 and manufactures high-efficiency LED lighting for the health and safety, food production, and agricultural sectors.
With more than a decade of experience in electrical engineering, business, and import/export, Shohreh stands out as a woman of color in an entrepreneurial role in a male-dominated industry, and she embraces this position as a role model. This includes volunteering on the boards of the Iranian Women's Organization of Ontario and initiating the Entrepreneur Committee to encourage women to pursue their passion for running their own businesses and beyond.
"Not only has it been difficult for me as a woman in a male-dominated industry, but it's even harder as a Canadian immigrant who had to build her business from the ground up," says Shohreh.
She is also committed to increasing female representation in the workplace as part of the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters' "We Can Do It" campaign. Shohreh has been selected as 1 of 100 women for the Women in Energy Transformation series! She is amongst the most powerful and inspirational leaders in Canada. Her leadership and efforts are of utmost importance, and her guidance will only help move the dial. The Women in Energy Transformation series is a collaborative effort between Pembina, Globe Series, and Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE). She was a finalist for the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards in 2022. Recently, she has been nominated for the 31st annual RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards in Innovation category.
Shohreh was one of the speakers for the Women in Tech, Girls in STEM 2017.
"I've always appreciated and cared deeply about nature. Watching the Earth be destroyed by fossil fuels and create food insecurity has driven my mission to support accessible energy at a fair price and to create peace by harmonizing technology, humans, and nature," says Shohreh.

Not only has it been difficult for me as a woman and single mom in a male-dominated industry, but it's even harder as a Canadian immigrant and single parent who had to build her business from the ground up.
